During my freshman year at Oregon State University I went through the Formal Recruitment Process. I knew Alpha Phi was the house for me when I attended "Chapter Day" and received a house tour and heartfelt description of Beta Upsilon's philantrhopy. During the visit, each girl was allowed to golf in the lawn, and if she made a hole, the house promised a donation to the Alpha Phi Foundation. While directions were being given by an Alpha Phi, one of the members standing with me started to stifle her giggle, and pretty soon the woman giving directions started to laugh so hard that she couldn't finish speaking. The bond between these two Alpha Phis was obvious and their friendship was genuine. True friendship is beyond value, and that was the first aspect of Alpha Phi that captured my heart.
I found that joining Alpha Phi would be an experience I would never regret and the bonds between APhi sisters is something to be ever cherished. Women with different personalities and ambitions are able to bond though Alpha Phi sisterhood, and I knew being an Alpha Phi meant more than just college friends, but a lifelong committment of sisters who would always encourage, support, lend advice, be honest, and speak every word out of love, even if we can't always see it right away. Choosing Alpha Phi was easy for me, because the members I encountered at OSU cherished one another, and above all, wanted Alpha Phi's high ideals for one another, with selfless, sisterly affection.
